Nature paradise in the south of Salzburg

Heartfelt hospitality and typical regional cuisine, countless opportunities to experience the mountains and nature, clean air and clear mountain water – a region that couldn’t possibly be more original or authentic. In summer and in winter, spring and autumn:this idyllic land is a natural jewel, the perfect destination to escape the daily routine and enjoy a well-earned timeout.

Nestled between the Radstädter Tauern in the west, the Nockbergestraddling the borders of three Austrian provinces, Salzburg-Carinthia-Styria, and the Schladminger Tauernin the north, lies this high plateau where you will discover the origin of the River Mur as well as former mining areas, where even the Romans left traces, people still master ancient crafts and over 60 crystal-clear alpine tarnshave endured the millennia, slumbering amid the most impressive scenery imaginable.

Life in harmony with nature

The Lungau has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, greeting visitors with countless highlights, all of which can be defined under the umbrella of “naturalness”. As the southernmost of all Salzburg’s districts and due to high elevations above 1000 m, the Lungau climate is extraordinary. From the time that nature reawakens in spring to wonderful summers that aren’t too hot, to the gold of autumn and winters in which the cool temperatures never inhibit you from getting out and exploring the snowy countryside:

The Lungau Biosphere Reserve is enchanting no matter what the time of year.
