Being active is always encouraged, and not just from a sporting perspective! Countless sights and attractions are simply waiting to be visited. The village and castle of Mauterndorf is the omnipresent ambassador of the Middle Ages. At one time, this was an important hub and toll station on the trade route over the Alps. The castle, with its medieval exhibition as well as the Medieval Festival, is highly recommended; likewise Schloss Moosham: The history which swirls around this former site where justice was meted out, is indeed a grim one. With no better testimony to this than the Museum of Torture…

And in the evening, if you are still not tired, you can cast a dreamy look towards the clear, starry heavens above Lungau. At certain locations in the Lungau, you can see the stars perhaps more clearly than anywhere else on Earth. Including the Prebersee outside Tamsweg, the Upper Lessachtal, the Karneralm and Hintermuhr. Which puts our region right up there with the likes of Chile, Madagascar and Australia. The darkness of our night sky is extraordinary. Meaning that our nights are really, really dark.
